A customer of ours made a great suggestion the other day. She said, “You guys should post something about what to expect or do with granite countertops after they are installed.” It is almost like bringing a new baby home and then you go, now what? Same idea. Great idea. What we can give advice on for expectations after granite installation is based off of our experience (both as a homeowner and business owner) and what our customers have expressed to us.
What to Expect –
As a customer who has just had these gorgeous stone countertops installed, you should expect both a sigh of relief that it is done and a small smile, especially if you had MWM&G as the fabricator. Go ahead and use the countertops as they were meant to be used…they are not just there for looks. Before you start placing small appliances and decorations on the tops….
Sealing, Sealer, Sealtastic, Seal-to-your-hearts-desire –
Whichever you want to call it, if your granite countertop needs to be sealed, you may want to do it before you start decorating the granite. Most granite colors will come with a resin poured over the surface to fill any pits, chips, fizers, etc as well as keep your countertops sealed and protected. There are a handful of granite colors that are porous though. Basically this means that any liquid that gets on the surface will soak in to the material. Sealing your countertops is absolutely necessary for porous countertops. A question we get regularly is, “How often do I have to seal the countertops?” As often as you see fit is the answer. If you start seeing water soak in to the material, seal the countertops. Eventually, you will get to a point where this will not be an issue.
To be continued….
