New & Unexpected Trends in Kitchen Countertops for 2023
Honed / Matte Finish.
When we visualize new stone kitchen countertops, adjectives such as sleek, shiny, and polished are typical. What if our vision is more inspired by nature; something more organic, warm, and rustic? Do stone kitchen countertops still fit this look and feel? Caesarstone head of design, Mor Krisher, says “Countertops made with matte quartz, honed porcelain, and concrete give your surface a deep, earthy appearance that feels very organic. Honed surfaces look great in spaces that capitalize upon warm tones to create a nature-inspired design.” Matte finishes that diffuse reflected light is sometimes known as honed or brushed when found on granite countertops, or concrete or leather finishes when found on engineered stone (quartz) countertops.
Dekton Stone
Dekton is a sophisticated mixture of more than 20 minerals extracted from nature. Dekton kitchen countertops first became available in 2013 and have recently gained popularity as an alternative kitchen surface.
Dekton is Cosentino’s ultra-compact surface. The Dekton kitchen worktop is the result of an accelerated version of natural stone processes. The production process is an advanced mix of raw materials used to make glass, porcelain materials, and quartz surfaces. The focus is on PST technology (Particle Sintering Technology), which ‘sinters’ mineral particles so that they fuse together and change their internal structure. This creates a new mass that is made ultra-compact under high temperatures and extreme pressure.
Homedit says, “For those people focused on sustainable architecture, Dekton countertops are an ideal option.”
Metallic/Alloy Veining.
Juxtaposition can be defined as taking two objects, themes, or materials and combining them or placing them together to create a striking contrast. In interior design, this can be interpreted as adopting two different styles, such as rustic and ultramodern, within the same space.
Cambria countertops have done just that with their Cambria Alloy Collection. These six new designs combine the luster and iridescence of metallic veining with the timeless brilliance and beauty of white-marbled quartz.
Backlit Waterfalls.
Custom kitchen islands and countertops are built using translucent stones that allow light, but not detailed shapes, to pass through with integrated LED lighting panels to create a stunning layered and unique backlit feature.
