Three types of rocks (igneous, sedentary, and metamorphic) were formed after the Earth cooled from being a fireball. Granite falls in to the igneous rock category. When magma cooled deep below the Earth’s surface, granite was created.
Did you know granite can cool down cookies (and other foods too)?
Naturally, granite countertops are cool to the touch because they are a stone/rock. By taking cookies (just for example) off the baking sheet and putting them directly on to the granite, the granite takes in the heat from the cookies and in turn cools the cookies.

Diamonds are the only thing harder than granite. That would explain why most (if not all) granite fabricating companies use diamond tipped blades/tools to fabricate countertops. Diamond tools have also been known to be used for engraving granite surfaces.
