Granite countertops go through trends just like the seasons in Kansas City. In late 2013, the darker colors such as Tan Brown, Coffee Brown, and Black Pearl were the most popular. From the beginning of 2014 to today (August), lighter colors such as Venetian Ice, River White, and New Venetian Gold have been the most common countertop colors. If it seems like we are speaking a different language, please go to our granite colors page on our website to see what the contrasting colors look like.
While we are experiencing a lighter or darker trend, we also have a customer here and there who really wants something distinctive from the norm. We can never predict when the trends will start or end as well as which customer wants a distinctive material that not most people will like or want but looks amazing in their kitchen. If it were something that was measurable or predictable, we would probably see job openings for granite countertop trend predictors.
Whether it’s a dark color or light color trend, granite will consistently be a integral option for countertops in general. Sometimes, we will see a news article about how granite is on it’s way out for countertops but we have not seen a downward fall in popularity. If anything, it has grown in demand because it has become more affordable and attainable than ever. Granite has seen a steady trend since the 1980’s. The only difference is that now there are other options for durable countertops such as quartz, quartzite, etc. To get more information on the different materials, please go to our countertop stone materials page.
If you are in the Kansas City area and you are thinking of updating to granite or another natural stone countertop, please give us a call to set up an estimate. We can also be reached by email at midwestgranite@hotmail.com.
